Rack-Mounting the ASUS NUC 15 Pro in a 10-Inch Rack

The NUC 15 Pro is a strange shape for rack life. It's not quite a book, not quite a square, and the tall NUC15CRH-B chassis is chunkier than the renders make it look. When mine arrived I did what most people do: set it on top of the rack "for now." It sat there for three weeks, slowly disappearing under patch cables.

Here's how to actually rack it — what fits, what to print, and a couple of things I got wrong so you don't have to.

Why the NUC 15 Pro is worth racking properly

This little machine has no business being this capable — Core Ultra silicon, up to 96GB of RAM, vPro on some SKUs, and it idles quietly enough to live in the same room as you. As a Proxmox or ESXi node it embarrasses hardware three times its size. Which is exactly why it deserves better than balancing on top of a switch.

The catch: ASUS gives you VESA holes and nothing rack-shaped. There's no official rack kit for the 10" format at all.

What "2U" actually means here

In a 10-inch rack, one U is the same 44.45mm as a big rack — just half the width. The tall NUC15CRH-B chassis is about 54mm high, so it needs a 2U slot (88.9mm) to breathe. A 1U sled technically exists in the wild; I don't recommend it. You want air above the exhaust, not another shelf.

The mount

I designed our 2U sled for the NUC 15 Pro around three rules:

  • No screws into the NUC. The chassis drops in and a front lip holds it. You can pull the machine out in five seconds for a RAM upgrade.
  • Airflow is sacred. The sled is open under the intake and behind the exhaust, with a hex pattern where material wasn't doing anything structural.
  • Cage nuts, not self-tappers. The rack ears take standard M6 hardware, same as everything else in your rack.

Printing it

PETG, 0.2mm layers, 3–4 perimeters, 30–40% infill. Skip supports — the 3MF in the download is already oriented so nothing overhangs past 45°. Mine took about six hours on an X1C.

One honest warning from my first attempt: PLA is fine if your rack lives somewhere cool, but the NUC's exhaust can soften PLA rack ears over a hot summer. I reprinted in PETG and stopped thinking about it.

The result

The NUC now slides in above my switch, exhaust clear, cables dressed down one side. Boring, in the best way. If your rack has a mini PC squatting on top of it right now, the fix is a $14 file and an evening of printer time: grab the mount here, or get it with four other mounts in the Starter Kit.
